Lemons in the Alps
Limone was the northernmost place in Europe where lemons were grown commercially, in terraced lemon houses (limonaie) sheltered from the cold. Some are open to visit.
A rare gene
Some families in Limone carry a protein variant, Apolipoprotein A-I Milano, linked to unusually healthy hearts. It was traced back to one couple in the 1700s.

Quantum of Solace opens with Bond's Aston Martin DBS chased by two Alfa Romeos through the tunnels of the Gardesana road on the lake's west shore, before the chase moves to the marble quarries of Carrara.
Hard on the cars
It was a tough shoot. During filming in 2008 one of the Aston Martins went off the road into the lake while being driven to the set; the driver escaped.
